Mrs O' Keeffe, Mrs Maher and Mrs Oxford would like to welcome you to our Nursery family at English Martyrs' RC Primary school.

Mrs O'Keeffe

Teacher - Nursery

We have a 26 place Nursery made up of full and part time places. Dependant on numbers each year we are able to offer full time places that are paid for by parents and carers.

Unlike Reception places the school deal with their own admissions. Please contact the school office for more details and an application form.

Parents of children born between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014 will be able to apply online for admission to Nursery for September 2017.

In Nursery we are part of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and work closely with the Reception classes and teachers. The EYFS framework sets out the legal requirements that everyone registered to look after children must follow, to keep your child safe and promote their welfare.

The framework is aimed to be very flexible so that we can follow your child’s unique needs and interests. The framework is split into seven areas of learning.

The Three Prime Areas

  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

The Four Specific Areas

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

There is no such thing as a ‘Typical day’ in our Nursery as every day is new and exciting. However, during the sessions your children will follow a similar daily routine. The children are welcomed into Nursery and are asked to hang up their own coat and find/write their own name. The children then say their morning prayer. The children will then access the areas of provision independently, until asked to work on a focused activity. We make opportunities for children to share interests and explore new and interesting topics. Discussions and observations during this times helps us to plan learning opportunities for your child. The children will then choose where they would like to learn and play. We offer free flow access to the outdoors in all weathers so appropriate clothing is imperative.

We teach ‘Letters and Sounds’ and help your child develop their pre reading skills. We also teach Mathematics where we develop the children’s skills in counting, recognising numbers and shapes in fun and interactive ways.

General reminders:

Please send you child with a change of clothes including socks and underwear. Please report any absences to the school office to the school office on the first day of absence.
