We aspire for every child to be happy, caring, secure and responsible; to develop a lifelong passion and thirst for learning enabling them to achieve their very best and be prepared for the challenges of the 21st century.

At English Martyrs we are committed to delivering a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum that not only ensures that all children are literate and numerate, achieving high standards in basic skills, but that also embeds these into a cross-curricular approach, where transferable skills are used in relevant and meaningful ways.

At English Martyrs we seek to create pupils and adults who deeply engage in the process of learning and therefore we encourage children to be effective learners; to take responsibility for their own learning, to be involved as far as possible in reviewing the way they learn, and to reflect on how they learn – what helps them learn and what makes it difficult for them to learn. Our children are encouraged to wobble in order to challenge themselves and develop an independence and resilience towards their learning.
Our children thrive in an environment where they feel happy, safe and secure. We believe that the more resilient, resourceful and reflective they become the more this helps them enjoy and engage with their learning.

Through our teaching we aim to enable children to become confident, resourceful, enquiring and independent learners; foster children’s self-esteem and help them build positive relationships with other people – both peers and adults; develop children’s self-respect and encourage children to respect the ideas, attitudes, values and feelings of others; show respect for all cultures and in so doing, to promote positive attitudes towards other people enabling the children to understand their community and help them feel valued as part of this community; help children grow into reliable, independent and positive citizens; take a pride in their work and the work of others.
